At Piscataqua Savings Bank, longevity isn’t measured simply by years, it’s measured by relationships.
For nearly 150 years, we’ve been serving customers throughout Portsmouth, New Hampshire and the greater Seacoast, building trust one conversation, one loan, one savings account, and one act of kindness at a time. Behind those relationships are employees who have dedicated decades of their careers to helping neighbors achieve their financial goals while strengthening the communities we all call home.
Their stories embody our Here for Good campaign: a promise to put people first, invest in our community, and remain a trusted local partner for generations to come.
Wanda Fontaine, Senior Vice President & Senior Operations Officer
36 Years of Service (Hired in 1990)
After more than three decades at Piscataqua Savings Bank, Wanda Fontaine says it’s impossible to choose just one favorite memory. Instead, it’s the countless relationships she’s built over the years that stand out most.
“I’ve had the privilege of watching families grow, celebrating milestones with them, and helping them through some of life’s toughest moments,” she says. “Those relationships have made my career incredibly meaningful.”
For Wanda, the people have always been the reason to stay. She describes the Bank as her second family, a place where coworkers celebrate successes together, support one another through challenges, and encourage each other to grow. Throughout her career, she’s embraced opportunities to mentor colleagues and help others reach their full potential.
When asked what Here for Good means to her, Wanda sees it as a commitment to evolve alongside customers and the Seacoast New Hampshire community while never losing sight of the personal service that defines community banking.
“Banking has changed tremendously over the years,” she says. “Being Here for Good means helping our customers adapt to those changes, supporting our communities where they need us most, and creating a workplace where employees feel valued and empowered to succeed.”
Michelle Jenkins, Deposit Operations Supervisor
36 Years of Service (Hired in 1990)
Some of Michelle Jenkins’ favorite memories take her back to Saturdays at our Kids’ Bank teller desk, where young savers eagerly arrived with jars full of coins to deposit into their accounts. Watching children develop healthy financial habits, and seeing their excitement every week, is a memory that has stayed with her throughout her career.
Michelle says one of the things that has made nearly four decades at Piscataqua Savings Bank so rewarding is the family atmosphere.
“Being an employee at Piscataqua Savings Bank is like having a second family you get to work with all day,” she says. “We all work together to serve our customers and the community. We also have the best customers, who sometimes feel like family too.”
To Michelle, Here for Good means supporting customers, encouraging coworkers, and always going above and beyond “the Piscataqua Way” to deliver exceptional service.
Jennifer Dumont, Universal Banker & Teller Supervisor
25 Years of Service (Hired in 2001)
Jennifer Dumont has spent more than 25 years helping customers across the Seacoast, but she says the supportive culture at Piscataqua Savings Bank is what has made those years pass so quickly.
“Working alongside great people who feel like family and being part of a supportive team has made the last 25 years fly by.”
Jennifer believes Here for Good is about putting customers first while giving back to the community through volunteerism. Whether assisting customers with everyday banking needs or participating in local volunteer opportunities, Jennifer represents the community-first approach that has long defined Piscataqua Savings Bank.
Antone Cabral, Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer
25 Years of Service (Hired in 2001)
After more than 25 years at Piscataqua Savings Bank, Antone Cabral has plenty of memories to choose from. One that stands out is the 2019 ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the Bank’s renovation.
“Although there have been so many great memories over the last quarter century (one feels very old when using that term), one that really sticks out is the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Bank renovation in 2019,” he says. “Although there were some very hard days, we persevered as a team to create a beautiful, functional, and memorable place we call home.”
That sense of teamwork is also what has kept Antone at Piscataqua Savings Bank for over two decades. “From my first day, the Bank has been so much more than just a place of business. Working side by side with people who care about both their coworkers and customers, from the President to the parking lot attendants, everyone treats each other as equals.”
Over the years, those shared experiences have created lasting bonds. Watching coworkers’ families grow and celebrating life’s milestones together has made Piscataqua Savings Bank feel like far more than a workplace.
Antone also believes the Bank’s impact extends well beyond its walls.
“When you know your place of business is here to do good, you can see the impact within the community,” he says. “It has a real impact on your self-worth when you know you’re directly enriching other people’s lives just by doing your job.”
For Antone, Here for Good means building the kind of lasting relationships that have kept Piscataqua Savings Bank rooted in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for generations. Whether helping someone buy their first home, supporting local businesses and nonprofit organizations, or simply being ready to help wherever help is needed, it’s about showing up and doing the best work possible, every day.
Mary Ayer, Loan Administration Manager
24 Years of Service (Hired in 2002)
One memorable day early in Mary’s career perfectly captured what makes community banking different.
As a sudden thunderstorm rolled through Portsmouth, a frightened corgi wandered into the Bank’s walk-up teller area seeking shelter. Although the dog wore no collar or identification, one of Mary’s coworkers immediately recognized her as Bebee, a beloved customer companion known for stopping by to collect treats during visits to the Bank.
The team contacted the owners, who hadn’t yet realized Bebee had escaped after being startled by the storm. Within minutes, the family was reunited. For Mary, it’s a story that reflects how well Piscataqua Savings Bank truly knows its customers, and their families.
Mary is equally grateful for the support she’s received throughout her career. She credits the Bank’s family-friendly culture and flexibility for helping her balance work and raising her children over the past two decades.
When she thinks about Here for Good, Mary sees a commitment to treating every customer as an individual, supporting local nonprofit organizations, and continually looking for ways to strengthen the community. She also points to Piscataqua Savings Bank’s commitment as a Certified B Corporation and initiatives like installing downtown Portsmouth’s first public fast EV charger as examples of investing in a stronger future for everyone.
Here for Good Since 1877
The stories of Wanda, Michelle, Jennifer, Antone, and Mary all share a common thread: people come first.
Together, these five employees represent more than 150 years of combined service to Piscataqua Savings Bank. Throughout those years, they’ve built lasting relationships with customers, supported one another as teammates, and helped strengthen communities across Portsmouth, New Hampshire and the greater Seacoast.
That’s what Here for Good means to us. It’s being there through life’s milestones and everyday moments alike. It’s giving back to local nonprofits, supporting our neighbors, investing in the communities we serve, and showing up each day with a genuine desire to help.
Since 1877, Piscataqua Savings Bank has been built on people who care deeply about their customers and their community. We’re proud to celebrate these remarkable employees, whose dedication continues to shape who we are today, and who we’ll be for generations to come.
